Welcome to
GunWiki. This site is entirely free of charge, and all articles are written by unpaid volunteers (and hosted out of pocket). If you'd like to join and write for the fame and notoriety it
may bring, you are absolutely welcome to do so. Just click
Register, and you'll be on your way to writing articles in no time. If you're not sure where to start, consult our
WantList for a list of articles which need to be written.
Please note that this is the original GunWiki, founded in December 2005. The guy who created thegunwiki.org in December 2009 and identifies his site as "The Gun Wiki" (which this site has identified itself as since Dec 2005, when thegunwiki.com was registered) is ABSOLUTELY NOT related to this site. It is unclear why he chose to identify it in EXACTLY the same words as this one. Hopefully it was just that he thought TGW was gone due to the domain going into expired status for the month of January.
It costs $75/mo to host TGW - if you've found its content useful, please consider making a donation.

Firearm Reference
Originally, TGW was going to stay out of the field of basic about-firearm-X articles.
World.guns.ru and
Wikipedia are generally better at that. However, a lot of subjects are either not being covered at all elsewhere, or are being covered without a technical slant. This is a gap we'll fill if no one else will.
Legal Information
Although most gun questions end up touching on law sooner or later, one of TGW's primary focuses is on helping folks avoid accidentally breaking state or federal laws. Because even most non-violent gun crimes (i.e. misconfiguration of a rifle) can be prosecuted as felonies, it's very important to remain rigorously within the law in order to retain your hobby.
Search Terms: the Q&A Section
TGW processes incoming Google/Yahoo/whatnot searches and mails a daily summary of them to me. This gives an idea what the public wants to know about, and provides a means to improve TGW's content by writing the content which people are hoping to learn. Search Terms columns are presented as an open monthly snapshot of what folks are asking TGW for. See
this article if you're curious about why this is done, and the mechanisms which drive it.
